The abortion pill is FDA-approved through 10 weeks (70 days) of pregnancy. Pregnancy dating is generally measured from the first day of your last menstrual period, not from the day you became pregnant.
Your last period can give you a rough idea of how far along you are. But if your periods aren’t regular, or you can’t remember exactly when your last period started, that estimate may be off. An ultrasound can give you a more accurate picture of how far along the pregnancy is.
At Options Clinic, we offer no-cost ultrasounds after a complimentary pregnancy test.
What Else Can an Ultrasound Tell Me?
An ultrasound can provide information beyond gestational age. It can show whether the pregnancy is developing and is located inside the uterus.
This is important because an ectopic pregnancy develops outside the uterus and requires different treatment than an elective abortion. A miscarriage also requires different care than an elective abortion.
A pregnancy test can tell you that you’re pregnant, but it can’t show what’s happening with the pregnancy. Having this information before making a decision about your pregnancy gives you a clearer picture of what you’re facing and helps you understand what medical treatment may be appropriate.
